If my grandparents were alive today,

I doubt they would believe how

popular anything galvanized has become.

In their day, you fed chickens in it,

or put out the trash in it,

or changed your oil with it,

or used it to hold your mop water...

you didn't decorate with it!

Not only do they have farmhouse charm,

they are still so useful today - 

just used differently than their original purposes.

Seven Things About Myself

1)  I've been a homeschooling mom for the past 15 years.

Two of my kids are now in college, 2 still school at home.

2)  When we moved from NM to MO six years ago,

we transported 6 people, 2 dogs, 2 puppies, a miniature horse

and a pregnant cat with us.  It was like something out of

Little House on the Prairie, except we were pulling the horse in a trailer,

instead of the horse pulling us in a cart.

3)  I can't sleep at night without my dvd player on.

The problem with that is I have to wear headphones so I

don't disturb my husband, and I have terrible eyesight,

so I have to wear my glasses also.

Yes,...I sleep with both on!

4)  Put anything to music and I can memorize it - 

Scripture verses, tv commercials, and I 

can still sing all the songs from Schoolhouse Rock.

5)  I'm surprised as heck that my efforts

to sell a few things I no longer needed,

turned into a full-fledged business.

Love it!

6)  Yes, I have a Hispanic surname.

No, I don't speak Spanish...unless you count,

"no comprende".

7)  I was diagnosed with Multiple Schlerosis in 2007.  

Thank God for wonderful medication,

I haven't had another relapse since my initial diagnosis.

No Patience Whatsoever

When I get an idea for a project in my head,
I usually want it finished yesterday.


We're working on a project at our house.
I use the word, "we're" pretty loosely,
because I came up with the inspiration,
but my husband is doing the work.


I can hardly wait until it's finished
and I can show you!


What I can tell you is that it involves
this gorgeous antique cabinet.

And it also involves these 
tongue and groove wood planks
that were removed from a
historic courthouse that was torn down.


I think this project will be one of my
all-time favorite projects!


I 'm not giving the man a moment's peace,
because I can't wait to show it to you and
because I have no patience
w.h.a.t.s.o.e.v.e.r!

Christmas Photo Shoot - a.k.a. Torturing Your Children 16 Times (Canvas Photo GIVEAWAY Reminder)

You'd think it wouldn't be this difficult.

You'd think that out of 16 shots,
I could get ONE good photo.

You'd think we could do this
without wanting to kill each other.

That's what I thought anyway.
I was wrong.

Either the spacing was wrong.

Or the pose was wrong.

(and the big brothers starting shoving each other off the hay bales)

 Or one had their eyes closed and the other
had his eyes WAY too open.

 Or someone had an abnormal smile.

 Or the photo looked crooked.

 Or the attempt at a creative angle didn't work.

 ...at all.

 This was the last photo I shot.
It's far from perfect,
but I sincerely doubt I can drag them out to try again,
so I may have to go with it.

How in the world do photographers do this for a living?
I'd become a violent person if I had to do this on a daily basis.

I had hoped to turn one of these into a canvas photo print for a gift.
The recipient would probably rather have fruitcake
than any of these photos.

Bah Humbug, ;0)

In their defense (and mine),
the temperature was 38 degrees, but
the wind was blowing so it felt like 28.
I was trying to hurry to get the photos
before their noses turned red.

***Note to self - take photos in October next year.

Storming the Gates of Heaven

Eleven years ago, I had a very sick,
newborn son who was in the hospital with RSV
(a respiratory virus dangerous to babies).

I was so terrified what might happen to him.
I prayed and prayed many incoherent prayers
that the Lord would heal him, but my fears continued.

What brought me the most comfort and peace
was knowing that there were others praying
for my little son as well.
As a friend of mine said,
"I'm storming the gates of Heaven for him".

Wow.

He was actively entreating the Lord,
on my son's behalf.
Prior to his words, I was afraid to sleep.
I didn't want to take my eyes off my son -
I felt like I had to be vigilant.

After his words and his prayer *with* me on the phone,
I was able to trust that God was on his throne,
and he was able to watch over my son while I rested.
He loved my son more than I did.

Those words made a lasting impression on me.

Tonight, I spoke via email with a fellow blogger -
one you probably are all familiar with
because she creates such beautiful things.
I didn't tell her I was posting this
(because I didn't know I was going to),
so I won't mention her name.
God knows who she is and that's all that matters.

What I will say is that she needs our prayers.
Not only is she struggling with some
really difficult health issues,
but everything that can go wrong...is going wrong.
She's weak, weary and worn down.

We've all had those times, haven't we?

I wish I lived near enough to bring her a meal,
or help her finish her projects she needs completed,
or just give her a hug.
